What are we doing?!

The purpose of this blog is to keep students and parents of Mrs. White's Class up-to-date on what we are learning, what homework we have, upcoming events, etc... It is another form of communication between the teacher/student/parent/guardian. **Parents, please be sure to always monitor your children while they are on the internet. If the "Next Blog" button is pushed, it will take you to a random blog on this site; which is supposed to be free of any objectionable materail, but you can never be to careful. Thank you very much. Mrs. White

The week of January 16-20, 2007

Yesterday we all celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. Today, we got back to school and back to work.

This week we will be studying about (-ail) words in spelling.

We begin a new topic in Math this week, Adding and Subtracting 2 Digit Numbers. This will include using "making tens" strategy to add, understanding the relationship between addition and subtraction, fact families, subtracting through "think addition" and using a variety of methods and tools to add.

In Social Studies, we will start our Economics unit by learning to "Categorize and prioritize wants and needs", "Apply the concept that goods and services are limited by available resources, requiring individuals and societies to make choices", and "Determine whether all people have the same needs and opportunities to meet those needs."

Science ties in with this as well, since we are learning about natural resources and how we can recycle, conserve, reuse, and reduce in order to help our environment.

Reading/Writing we are currently doing our Mid-year assessments for reading, but we are still working on how to find the main idea of a story and then identify its details.
